Position: Web Services Support and Software Engineer
Responsibilities as a Web Services Support personnel
• Fixing bugs, errors and other issues on various websites.
• Migration of code from a Development to a Production Environment.
• Interacting with customers through phone, e-mail or Net Meeting.
Website Support:
• Bids And Transfers – This internal website was written using Visual Basic .NET 2003 and ASP.NET 1.1 with SQL Server 2005 as a back end. Website needed some re-designing because the functionality was failing on a critical database issue. Analyzed the database and the SQL statement that retrieved the data and modified it to get the data in the desired format. Then modified the web page as per the customer’s requirements and had the site up and running in a few days.
• Corning Partners Network – This external facing website enables Corning to sell specialized glass equipment to various companies. This website was written mostly in HTML, VB Script and JavaScript and interfaced a database to store customer data. Fixed a major database issue with this website thus enabling a very large corporation to resume its business with Corning.
• ACE Support Documents Website – As the name suggests, this website contains most of the support documents for various websites of Corning. This website was written mostly in HTML and VB Script. Fixed a search and display issue with this website thus improving overall response times for fixes.
• Corning’s Intranet System – Corning was composed internally of many websites that worked on a common server. Fixed common issues with websites like missing pages, broken links, file deletions or page access to various customers. Worked in HTML, VBScript, Javascript when fixing these websites. Also interacted with the customers of these various websites many times in the course of fixing them.
Responsibilities as a Software Engineer
Developed the Human Resources Talent Development website. Project began with discussions between Project Manager, Software programmers and a Business Analyst. During the meeting, reviewed customer requirements for the website and formulated a plan of attack. Kept the plan under constant scrutiny and provided helpful suggestions for improving it. Interacted with the Project Manager and Business Analyst, provided models and mock-ups of features on the site to discuss how to implement them.
As a developer, coded and programmed pages using Visual Basic 2005, HTML and Telerik and Rad Controls version 2008 while using Team Foundation Server 2005 as source control. Positioned content to give an aesthetic look. Enhanced and resized images to the correct proportions to give the web site a sharp feel. Met all of the deadlines and impressed the Project Manager as well as the customer. Was also involved in testing of the website, documented errors in an excel spreadsheet and each one tackled one by one until all were fixed.
At the conclusion of the project, was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the customer for excellent work put into designing and creating the website.
