Objective
PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Highly accomplished and results-oriented professional with experience in an extremely wide field of technologies including distributed systems, switched-fabric systems, load balancing, collaboration tools, and all levels of the open systems interconnection (OSI) protocol architecture. Exceptional critical thinking skills that include the ability to design, analyze, test, and troubleshoot computer networking hardware and software. History of completing complex projects on time through detailed planning and monitoring. Knowledgeable in the aspects of electrical and HVAC system design and general control systems. Proven leadership skills as a team leader for multiple projects; twice nominated as a team leader of animation teams tasked with creating accurate virtual 3D models of buildings and a Linear Switched Reluctance Motor (LSRM) driven elevator system for implementation in homes for disabled people.
Work Experience
Patent Examiner
United States Patent and Trademark Office March 2004 - August 2009 (5 years 5 months)
Review patent applications to conduct analysis and research of detailed computer networking engineering disclosures for conformance to United States Code and current USPTO policy.
Determine application compliance with basic format and filing rules, Federal law and regulations, and scientific principle. Responsible for scrutinizing patent applications, determining the scope of protection claimed by the inventor, researching relevant technologies, and comparing similar prior inventions with the invention claimed in the patent application. Communicate to patent practitioners and/or inventors through written correspondence detailing all findings, decisions, legal and social issues, technological similarities and differences. Conduct an extensive review of a large body of technical information which regularly includes detailed drawings as represented in electrical schematics, network topography, OSI protocols, and graphical user interface (GUI) diagrams. Review patent applications and write office actions in a production-oriented environment that requires the analytical ability to efficiently digest large volumes of scientific information and to use this in making timely decisions regarding the patentability of an application. Regularly meet with patent attorneys to negotiate patentable claim language and discuss correction of formal matters.
Key Achievements:
Achieved 80% affirmation rate at Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI), far exceeding the USPTO average of 55%.
Scored 100% on randomly selected applications reviewed for quality assurance throughout entire tenure.
Passed USPTO Certification Exam (Patent Bar Equivalent) on first attempt, an accomplishment attained by only 40% of exam takers.
Progressed from GS-5 to a GS-11 position.
Continued technology education through USPTO in-house training conducted by representatives from corporate leaders such as IBM, Google, and Cisco.
CAD Draftsman
Meucci Engineering, Inc January 1999 - January 2003 (4 years)
Performed duties as an AutoCAD operator for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical projects. Interpreted and translated engineering markups for professional presentation to architects and contractors. Maintained shop drawings of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment including all necessary electronic schematics, printed circuit board drawings, mechanical assemblies, detail mechanical component drawings, HVAC layouts, electrical layouts, and plumbing layouts. Consulted with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts, and determine requirements of detailed working drawings.
